On my last full day on the Isle of Mull I visited a very remote part in the south west of the island, which someone on one of the wildlife tours had told me was worth visiting. She was so right. It was incredibly beautiful, quiet and almost completely devoid of people. Heaven! Driving along the tiny, deserted road to Lochbuie I had to rub my eyes – twice – when I saw this vision. I thought I must be dreaming, but no, it really was a male white peacock displaying. We met his owner walking down the road, who told us his name was Cahill (it’s Irish) and that he’d come from a peacock rescue and was very friendly. I had no idea there was such a thing as peacock rescue, but you live and learn. I had hoped to see white-tailed and golden eagles (which I did), maybe a hen harrier, but the last thing in the world I thought I’d see on the Isle of Mull was a white peacock. :))
