Oklahoma Sooners Wrestling Breaks Eight Game Losing Streak To Iowa State

Mizzou blew a bunch of the capital gained by soundly beating Oklahoma by being routed in College Station. It was clear this season in both Iowa City and Ames that the future of the programs was not now.
Missouri Tigers – Mizzou expects to have an offense that will be able to challenge the highly touted Nebraska defense, but the Tigers must visit Lincoln this season, giving the Huskers the edge in the Big 12 North.

Problem is, the Utes haven’t played anyone of note since the Panthers game and they’re coming off a bye week. Is a letdown in sight against the unranked, battle-tested Iowa State basketball this weekend?

The 15 runs marked the most by Iowa in a conference game since May 3, 1997, when the Hawkeyes won at Penn State, 19-1. It also marked the most runs for Iowa against the Wildcats in 100 meetings. The 15 runs equaled the second most ever by Iowa in a Big Ten game.

Following the opening game loss to supreme power Akron, Army fought back to claim a 14-7 victory over Rhode Island last Saturday. On deck for the Knights is defending ACC Champ Wake Forest who comes off a smarting loss to Nebraska. Playing a hungry team is never a good sign if you are trying to break a losing streak, and Army is playing this one on the road.

As I recall it was not an overly exciting entrance onto the field by the home team. They did a video.kind of; and they stormed the field.sort of; and the band played.a little. If you’re a bit late to the gate, don’t sweat it.

In a perfect follow up to their opening day loss to UCLA, the Cardinal gave football fans a break on Saturday by not playing. But look for Stanford to slide down the Futility Rankings should they come out and give – Oregon – a game on the 22nd. The Ducks though, are fresh off skewering once proud Michigan and unfortunately for the Cardinal, should have the sense to take this game seriously.

Coach Mike Krzyzewski actually emptied the bench Friday, as even Todd Zafirovski and Casey Peters saw two minutes off the bench, although they did not record any statistics. Don’t expect to see them again for the remainder of the tournament.

As experienced as they are on offense the Cyclones are just as green on defense. Goner are all three starting linebackers from a year ago, including the Big 12 leading tackler Jesse Smith. Jake Knott and A.J. Klein are expected to start on the outside, while a junior college transfer will fill the middle linebacker position. The unit also lacks experience in the trenches, Bailey Johnson started eight games at nose tackle and Patrick Neal made nine starts at the end position. The secondary is solid with Leonard Johnson and Ter’Ran Benton at the corners and Strong Safety David Sims.
