Der Kommissar in English means “commissioner or police captain”. Gattaca is another film that I highly recommend for science fiction fans. Written and directed by John Sayles Eight Men Out is a dramatization of baseball’s 1919 Black Sox scandals.
In “The Way, Way Back,” which opens Friday, July 12 exclusively at Harkins Camelview 5, Liam James plays a teenager who gets a job at a water park and gains some much-needed self-confidence under the guidance of happy-go-lucky water park employee (Sam Rockwell) who approaches life from a fresh new perspective.
One film that I regretfully have to put on this list is Braveheart. Regardless of Mr. Gibson’s personality and beliefs in real life, he knocked it out of the park with this film. It is not a coincidence that it 12 years a slave awards years a slave awards for Best Picture of the Year.
Just try getting this Dirty Dancing song out of your head after hearing it! The Time Of My Life was composed by Franke Previte, John DeNicola, and Donald Markowitz. Franke Previte also wrote the lyrics and Bill Medley with Jennifer Warnes sang the song for the movie. Dirty Dancing of course was a major hit movie starring Patrick Swayze and the infamous line: “Nobody puts Baby in a corner!” Dirty Dancing on Blu-ray is a real steal of a deal at most any retail store you seek it from. As of this writing in 2010, don’t pay more than $7.99.
The decision to work with specific directors has to do with the project. In the case of [Guillermo del Toro] we had a very long relationship. I believe in him as a filmmaker. He is a very visual director and someone that understands the contribution that cinematographers offer is important not only for the creative process, but as a film language. That is the kind of relationship I like to have with a director.
So many movies have unexpected credits that IMDB even reserves a special movie trivia category dedicated to what it calls Crazy Credits. Surely, one of the weirdest choices for addition to the end credits occurs at the end of An American Werewolf in London when the producers actually took the time to extend a congratulations to Prince Charles and Princess Diana. Weird thing about that is that director John Landis’ career lasted about as long as that loveless marriage. Another bit of weird movie trivia related to credits belongs to a forgettable 1980s movie titled Night Patrol. For no discernible reason since everybody in the cast speaks English, the credits are all in French. What’s up with that?
Written and directed by John Sayles Eight Men Out is a dramatization of baseball’s 1919 Black Sox scandals. John Sayles is one of the best independent film makers of the last 25 years and does an amazing job with the touching film.
Michael Clayton is the last film that I will include in this article. I have a hard time imagining any one doing as good a job in this role as George Clooney did. Tilda Swinton won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for this movie.
