College Basketball Rankings 2013: Gonzaga Beats Byu, Prepares For No. 1 Ranking

They have the most athletic team in the field, and a pair of stallions in Rodney Carney and Darius Washington. Although, that’s why they schedule the games as the pairity in men’s basketball has been bigger than ever.
Over the next couple of months, Examiner.com will release the top five WCC players at each position every Monday, ending with the overall Top 25 list.

0 – Division I players with a higher scoring average than BYU’s Jimmer Fredette, who averages 26.7 points, has scored more than 40 point twice the past three games and was named Mountain West player of the week for the fourth consecutive week.

The Big East is going crazy, and with a strong nucleus of teams from the 1 through 10 spots, anybody has a chance. I’m picking upset here. But who to pick is the ridiculous part of this equation. However, Louisville has been slowly on the upswing ever since their loss to Dayton early in the season, and I think they do enough to contain Roy Hibbert (which they’ve already done once in a 59-51 win). Considering only 1 loss has been by double digits (by 10 vs. Seton Hall), it’s possible.

The Nets have a nice core of players with Devin Harris at point guard and Brook Lopez at center for the next 7-10 years. Vince Carter is still a really good player in the league and could use another scorer at shooting guard. Yi Jianlian was supposed to fill the scoring void, but it’s looking more and more like the NBA is too much for him to handle. Budinger is 6273 and has great athleticism to go along with a sweet stroke. He may have trouble guarding quicker guards, but he could give teams a nightmare on the offensive end.

Overall, I think it will be back and forth series that comes down to who can make the better adjustments. Gregg Popovich and Phil Jackson are both Hall of Fame coaches, now which team is more likely to listen to their coach instead of putting all the pressure on themselves. The answer in my view is the San Antonio Spurs. I am predicting a Spurs victory in seven games to win the Western Conference Finals, this despite a grueling schedule to start Game 1.

Since starting 2-1, the Pilots have dropped four straight but they have still proven to be better than the three teams below them. Portland still has a ton of growing to do but, luckily, there is still a lot of conference play left to go. They get Gonzaga and LMU this week.

The Dynamo is missing Brian Ching (USA), Stuart Holden (USA) and Andrew Hainault (Canada) during the Gold Cup. Keeper Pat Onstad’s 0.63 goals-against average and eight shutouts lead the league while Brad Davis leads the MLS in assists (7).

This maybe Santa Clara’s last chance at a win in league play. The Broncos, already the first team to start league 0-14 since the 2000-01 Gaels, are trying to avoid becoming the first WCC team to begin league play 0-15. Pepperdine got a win against Portland and needs to continue that trend in their final league game. Pepperdine would secure the seventh seed with a win and a Portland loss to Saint Mary’s.
