Chroma District consists of special lanterns hung from trees near the David H. Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research. The lanterns are illuminated with different colors, and each one produces its own unique sound, which has been recorded at one of several locations, thus blurring the boundaries between MIT and the campus surrounding. While the installation is in its idle state, each lantern softly plays its sound and emits a gentle light. When a visitor approaches a lantern, its sound and color is passed from one lantern to another, increasing in intensity along the way and illuminating the path forward.
